Three militants killed in Kashmir gun battle

Srinagar : Indian Army soldiers Monday gunned down three militants in Jammu and Kashmir’s frontier district of Kupwara.

A defence spokesperson here said the firefight erupted after troops of 2 Para launched a “surveillance cum ambush operation” in Duruswani village, 110 km from this summer capital of Kashmir.

“The troops noticed the movement of terrorists during the operation. On being challenged, the terrorists opened fire. The troops retaliated and in the firefight, three terrorists were killed. They were identified as Omar Khatib of Al Barq, Chacha of Jaishe Muhammad (JeM) and Asanullah of Harkatul Mujaheedin (HuM),” Lt. Col A.K. Mathur said here Monday evening.

The army recovered three Kalashnikov rifles, ammunition, 10 hand grenades, pistols, 11 detonators, seven remote controlled IEDs and radio sets, the official said.
