Athens : The wildfires raging in Greece have caused an estimated damage worth 5 billion euros ($6.8 billion), Athens-based business publication Imerisia reported Wednesday, citing the Greek Finance Ministry.
“Experts at the ministry estimate the damage to be from three billion to five billion euros,” the newspaper said.
The flames have also destroyed 4.5 million olive trees, and 60,000 sheep and goats have died.
The Greek government has not yet released any official figures about the destruction caused by the fires.
The fires were losing strength Wednesday morning.
