10 injured in Dalit-police clashes in Haryana

Chandigarh : Over 10 people, including four policemen, were injured Friday when Dalit protestors clashed with the police in Haryana’s Panchkula town adjoining Chandigarh.

The Dalits were protesting the killing of Dalit youth Rakesh alias Lara in Gohana town of Sonepat district Aug 27 night by unidentified youths.

The protestors gathered near the border between Chandigarh and Panchkula for the protest. When the police tried to stop them, they pelted stones and bricks at the security personnel.

While the Haryana Police engaged the protestors on the Panchkula side, the Chandigarh Police was also present in strength near Mauli Jagran locality here to curb any spill over of the protest into the union territory.

The Haryana Police used tear gas and batons to disperse the mob, injuring a few people. Policemen were also injured in the stone pelting.
