Chandigarh : Haryana got its second woman chief secretary in the last two years with the appointment Friday of Promila Issar, a 1972 batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer.
In a state, which has one of the poorest sex ratios in the country (about 800 females per 1,000 males), Issar follows Meenaxi Anand Chaudhary, a 1969 batch officer, who was the first woman chief secretary to be appointed in 2005.
Incidentally, both the women officers have been appointed to the state’s top bureaucratic job by the present Bhupinder Singh Hooda government.
Issar replaces Prem Prashant, who retired Friday.
She had earlier served as the financial commissioner and principal secretary, revenue. Last year, Issar had the additional charge as vice chancellor of the state’s first women’s university set up in Sonepat district.
