Udhagamandalam (Tamil Nadu) : The resort town of Ooty in Tamil Nadu will be the venue of the national Rose Convention in 2009.
Ooty, known as Udhagamandalam, in the Nilgiri hills, nearly 600 km south of Chennai, has an exclusive rose garden, which is expected to showcase 4,500 varieties. The Nilgiri Rose Society will be the host for the event.
Society president K. Krishnakumar told the media here that the World Federation of Rose Societies would be participating in the Ooty meet.
Nilgiris Hotels and Restaurants Association president Sanjeev Sharma has called for linking the Rose Convention to tourism and to promote greater tourist inflow into the district, to help its economic revival.
The 2008 edition of the convention would be held at Indore in Madhya Pradesh in January.
