NATO to help Jordan destroy explosive remnants of war

By Xinhua

Brussels : NATO on Monday launched a project to assist Jordan with the elimination of explosive remnants of war (ERW), said the alliance.

The project, which will fund a survey and deliver ERW location and search equipment to the Jordanian armed forces, will cost 3.4 million euros (5 million U.S. dollars) over a period of 24 months.

The project is the first of its kind with a Mediterranean Dialogue country. The alliance hopes that it can serve as an example for other Mediterranean partners to follow.

NATO’s Mediterranean Dialogue, initiated in 1994, involves seven Middle East and North African countries including Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Mauritania, Morocco and Tunisia.
