Road accidents kill more than insurgents in Tripura

Agartala : Road accidents claim more lives than insurgent attacks in Tripura.

According to a government statement, 185 people have been killed in road accidents this year as against 196 the whole of last year.

The total number of people killed by militants in the insurgency-hit state so far this year is 19 compared to 27 in 2006, it said. A total of 1,194 people were injured in road accidents this year.

Tripura police chief K.T.D. Singh said: “Road accidents have become a matter of grave concern. We are introducing speed radars and other systems so that the culture of safe driving is encouraged.”
