Srinagar : Describing Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah as a great visionary who all his life worked for peace and amity between various communities, Governor Lt. General (Retd) S K Sinha today said that Sher-e-Kashmir’s contribution towards upliftment of the people of Jammu and Kashmir will be remembered for all times to come.
In a message on his birth anniversary, the Governor said that Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah upheld the high values of secularism and composite culture of the State at the time of Partition when communal frenzy had engulfed the sub-continent. Under his dynamic leadership, the people of Kashmir gave a befitting reply to the tribal invasion launched by Pakistan Army in 1947.
The contribution of Sheikh Sahib in building Naya Kashmir has been immense; he said and referred to his pioneering role in introducing land reforms.
He said Sheikh Sahib was the tallest leader of Kashmir who inspired and guided the people of Jammu and Kashmir and led them to an era of democracy and social justice.
General Sinha recalled his personal interaction with Sheikh Sahib on quite a few occasions and said these are part of his cherished memories.
