Shimla : Tea garden king Brij Behari Lal Butial is the richest politician vying to be a legislator in the Himachal Pradesh assembly polls with his wealth estimated at Rs.920 million.
A Congress legislator from Palampur in Kangra district, some 260 km from here, Butail has declared total assets worth that much before the returning officer at Palampur.
Butail and his wife own immovable assets running into millions of rupees. He also own three cars.
Butail, in his early 70s, has been a legislator from Palampur since 1980 and has lost the seat only once. He has been a minister twice.
The second and last phase of the assembly polls in Himachal Pradesh takes place Dec 19 for 65 seats.
