Addressing a mammoth public meeting at Mandi area of Poonch district, the NC president came down heavily upon the state government for its failure to address basic problems confronting the common masses of the state.

“What happened to the promises made by the coalition alliance in the last assembly elections”, he asked adding, “Unemployment continues to hunt the youth, who were already facing bloodshed and violence”.

The coalition alliance in last assembly elections, he said, had pledged to provide one job to every household in the state but the promise turned out to be hollow. “The failure of the government can be gauged from the fact that over 60,000 educated unemployed youths are currently registered in the 17 employment exchanges across the state”

Asserting that the unemployment has reached at an alarming stage, Omar promised special employment policy if his party assumes power in the next assembly elections.

“The employment packages would not only be for the educated class but it will also cover the youth having qualification of middle and secondary school, belonging to the far flung areas of the state”, he said.

Lambasting the political parties who are hell bent to divide people on religious and community basis, NC president said that National Conference never fought elections on religious grounds and has always worked for the welfare of the common people with sincerity and dedication.

“We believe in equitable development of all the three regions, community and caste”, he said adding; “We never tried to fragment people in society for political gains”.

Asking the people to reject all such political parties, Omar said, “Those who are trying to divide the society for petty political gains are destroying the fabric of Jammu and Kashmir”.

He added that attempt was being made to create wedge among the people on communal and community lines, which can have dangerous consequences. “NC is the only party which always stood for secularism, development and brotherhood”.

The National Conference president also urged upon the misguided youth to shun the path of violence.

Gun has only brought destruction to the state of Jammu and Kashmir, he said while cautioning the youth not to fall in the trap of those people who use them for their own vested interests.

“I have a dream of peaceful Jammu and Kashmir, where people can once again live harmony, dignity and honour”.

The NC president said that his party has been a strong votary of peace and shall continue to strive for peace in J&K.

“NC can be a bridge for India– Pakistan dialogue and it can facilitate an honorable solution to the Kashmir imbroglio, which will be acceptable to the people of India, Pakistan and J&K”, he added.

The public meeting was also addressed by Mian Altaf, Mushtaq Bukhari, Javed Rana, Choudhary Bashir Ahmed Naz, Choudhary Talib Hussian, M R Qureshi, K Rashpal Singh, T.S. Wazir, Devender Singh Rana Bashir Ahmed Wani and Ajaj Jan.
