Baghdad : At least 15 people were killed and 25 injured when a suicide bomber blew himself up in the town of Muqdadiyah in Diyala province Friday, a police source said.
The suicide bomber, who was wearing an explosives vest, detonated it in front of the gate of the US-backed Awakening Council, which is fighting Al Qaeda in Iraq, in Muqdadiyah, some 100 km northeast of Baghdad, the source said.
The Diyala province has been a hotbed of insurgency and sectarian violence since the US-led invasion of Iraq in 2003.
