Bush to meet northern Ireland leaders

Washington : President George W. Bush will meet Friday with Northern Ireland’s First Minister Ian Paisley and Deputy First Minister Martin McGuiness, on their first joint visit to the White House.

“Over the past several years, the United States has actively supported peace efforts in Northern Ireland, which culminated in the formation of a unified Northern Ireland government,” said Tony Frito, a White House spokesman.

“The president looks forward to congratulating the two leaders on overcoming years of violent conflict and for taking the historic path towards a peaceful and prosperous future for all of the people of Northern Ireland,” Frito told reporters.
