4 wounded in bomb attacks in north of Baghdad

Tikrit, Iraq : A car bomb and a roadside bomb attacks in Salahudin province in north of Baghdad on Sunday wounded four people, including a soldier, a provincial police source said.

A booby trapped car left near a checkpoint manned by Iraqi Army soldiers at the southern entrance of the town of Beiji, 200 km north of Baghdad, detonated at about 8:15 a.m. (0515 GMT), the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.

One soldier was wounded by the blast, the source said.

On Saturday, Beiji was the scene of suicide truck bombing that targeted a police station, killing six people, including two policemen, and wounding 15 people.

Farther north, a local leader of anti-Qaida group in the town of Shirqat, 270 km north of Baghdad, escaped a bomb attack, when gunmen blew up an explosive charge in his house, wounding three of his family members.

Insurgents have increased their attacks in northern Iraq after they were pushed out from their strongholds in the central and western the country by major offensives of the U.S. and Iraqi security forces.
