Kozhikode : Former Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) Kerala unit president Cyriac John along with 1,000 of his supporters rejoined the Congress party at a function here Monday.
John, a former Congress minister, had quit the party 23 years ago.
John had left NCP last month. His entry into the Congress is expected to strengthen it in Kozhikode district, especially in the hilly regions where Christian settlers have a sizeable presence.
The function was attended by Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee president Ramesh Chennithala and a host of state Congress leaders.
Chennithala said he would welcome back all those who left the party. “I am happy that K. Karunakaran is also returning to the Congress. The party is waiting for his return,” he said.
Karunakaran, the veteran political leader, openly declared his intention to return o the Congress at a function in Thiruvananthapuram Monday.
