New York : People with high blood pressure are likely to face increasing risk of mild cognitive decline, a condition in which a person has problems with memory, language, or mental function, a new US study has found.
Uncontrolled high blood pressure is already known to cause stroke, heart attack, heart failure or kidney failure.
A team led by Christiane Reitz at the Columbia University Medical Center, New York, found that high blood pressure – also known as hypertension – was associated with an increased risk of all types of mild cognitive impairment, reported Newswise wire.
“The mechanisms by which blood pressure affects the risk of cognitive impairment or dementia remain unclear,” the authors write in the December issue of journal Archives of Neurology.
