Kolkata : Driven by depression after losing her job with a call centre here, a 35-year-old woman leapt to her death from the ninth floor of a building at West Bengal’s IT hub, police officials said.
Jayita Ghosh, a former employee of Wipro Spectramind, jumped to her death from a ninth floor window in the emergency exit wing of the high-security Infinity Building in Salt Lake Sector-V Tuesday afternoon.
She left behind her photograph and a bag containing Rs.10,000 but no suicide note.
Ghosh was rushed to the Bidhannagar Sub-Divisional Hospital, where she was declared brought dead.
Local reports said she was dressed in a T-shirt and jeans when she was found dead, her face smashed beyond recognition.
Police officials said her father identified her late Tuesday after her photograph was flashed on local news channels. Ghosh had not pursued studies after Class 12.
“She found work in call centres and was last employed with Wipro, which she had to leave two months ago. Since then, she had been giving tuitions at home, but she had gone into depression,” said a police officer after initial inquiry.
It was yet to be ascertained what Ghosh was doing at the 11-floor building which has offices of 23 companies.
“We are trying to find out whether she was an employee or a visitor,” Superintendent of Police (North 24-Parganas) Supratim Sarkar said.
