Ranchi : Doctors in Jharkhand appointed on contract returned to work after 13 days Thursday following the government’s assurance that their services would be regularised.
The doctors decided to end their 13-day strike after a meeting with the state Health Minister Bhanu Pratap Shahi Wednesday night.
It was agreed to increase their monthly salary from the existing Rs.13,200 to Rs.20,000 per month.
“The striking doctors salary will not be deducted during strike period and the police complaints will also be withdrawn,” Shahi said.
“The regular appointment will take place following the procedure and the contractual doctors will be given preference,” he added.
“We have called off the strike accepting the minister’s proposal,” said Bimlesh Kumar Singh, president of the Jharkhand Contractual Doctors Association.
In 2003, the Jharkhand government had appointed nearly 600 doctors on contract.
