Nepalese Army chief meets Pranab

New Delhi(IANS) : Nepalese Army chief Gen. Rookmangual Katawal Thursday met Indian External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee here and discussed matters of mutual interest.

On Wednesday, Katawal was conferred the honorary rank of an Indian Army general at an investiture ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan here.

President Pratibha Patil conferred the rank on Katawal at the ceremony attended by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and top military and civilian officials.

Katawal was on a two-day visit to India especially for the ceremony. He has also held meetings with Indian Army chief Gen. Deepak Kapoor, Indian Navy chief Admiral Sureesh Mehta and Indian Air Force chief Fali Homi Major.

During these meetings, Katawal sought the resumption of light arms shipments from India in the backdrop of the changed political situation in his country.

India has been a major supplier of non-lethal military hardware like helicopters and trucks to Nepal.
