Raipur : A 40-year-old man has been arrested for beheading a 55-year-old in Chhattisgarh’ Korba district and then displaying his head for hours before villagers, police officials said Thursday.

“Govind Singh Gaur of Amlibahra village beheaded Hirasai alias Agnu Wednesday with a sharp edged weapon near a pond. He then showed Agnu’s head to villagers and said his wife and daughter had died due to the witchcraft practiced by the deceased,” R. Kerketta, officer in charge of Pasan police station, told media persons.

Agnu belonged to Siri, a village neighbouring Amlibahra, about 320 km north of state capital Raipur. He was a distant relative of the accused.

Witchcraft related crimes are common in Chhattisgarh’s tribal dominated northern Surguja and southern Bastar regions.
