Think-tank calls on EU leaders to accept Ahtisaari plan on Kosovo

BRUSSELS, Dec 14 (KUNA) — The European Union has a historic opportunity to send an unequivocal message of readiness to take a leading role in Kosovo, the Brussels-based International Crisis Group (ICG) said Friday.
Kosovo is to dominate an EU summit meeting here Friday.
In a letter to EU leaders, ICG President Gareth Evans urged them to send a message to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon reaffirming that “the plan for a conditionally independent Kosovo devised by the UN Secretary-General’s special representative Martti Ahtisaari remains the best basis for the settlement of the Kosovo issue.” The UN Security Council meets on 19 December to discuss Kosovo.
