Ramallah : The Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) Saturday announced that Palestinian security forces loyal to President Mahmoud Abbas have arrested 26 members of the movement in the West Bank.
“The Palestinian security forces continued the detention campaign that targets Hamas supporters in various cities in the West Bank,” Hamas said in a statement faxed to the press.
“The arrests are meant to prevent Hamas from marking its 20th anniversary,” the statement said, adding that most of the detainees were taken from West Bank town of Qalqilya.
Hamas observes its 20th anniversary of founding as feud with rival Fatah movement continues.
The two movements has been trading accusations since Hamas took control of Gaza after it routed pro-Abbas security forces and his Fatah movement in mid June.
