Modi votes in Sarkhej constituency of Gujarat

Ahmedabad : A confident looking Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi cast his vote in Ranip area of Sarkhej assembly constituency Sunday, claiming that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) would get an unprecedented majority in the elections.

A large crowd of cheering supporters, who were waiting for him since morning, greeted Modi when he arrived at the booth. As soon as he reached, the crowd shouted “Modi…Modi”.

After casting his vote, Modi flashed a victory sign to his supporters. “The BJP is fighting for the future of Gujarat. I am sure that we will get an unprecedented majority,” he told reporters.

Modi’s cabinet colleague Amit Shah is contesting from Sarkhej constituency. It is the biggest constituency in terms of size and the number of voters for the second phase of Gujarat elections.

The chief minister himself is pitted against union minister Dinsha Patel in the adjoining constituency of Maninagar in Ahmedabad.

The second and final phase of Gujarat polls began early Sunday. A total of 599 candidates are contesting in 95 seats of central and northern Gujarat where 18.7 million voters have the right to vote.
