Raipur : External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee Saturday inaugurated the passport office in this Chhattisgarh capital.
The Chhattisgarh government had been requested the central government for years to open a passport office in the state, which came into existence Nov 1, 2000, as applicants had to deal with the Bhopal-based passport office, delaying formalities by at least 3-6 months.
Several leading dignitaries including Minister of State for External Affairs E. Ahamed, Chief Minister Raman Singh, former chief minister Ajit Jogi, Congress treasurer Motilal Vora and former union minister Vidya Charan Shukla attended the inaugural function held at a hotel.
