Patna : In what police described as a “revenge killing”, abductors have slaughtered a schoolboy in a Bihar village. But the victim’s family says he was killed because they failed to pay ransom.
Police recovered the headless body of a 14-year-old Shivshankar Kumar Sunday. A Class VIII student, Kumar was kidnapped Saturday from Fatuha village near here.
His father Kailash Prasad, a retired railway employee, had lodged a case of abduction Sunday. Prasad said that four men wielding arms took away his son when he was going to meet a relative near the highway NH-30.
Prasad told the police that the kidnappers had demanded a ransom of Rs.500,000 for his son’s release.
Even as Kumar’s family said he was killed as they failed to pay the ransom, police said it was done to settle scores.
“The demand for ransom was only a ploy to kill the boy to settle a dispute,” said U.K. Sinha, superintendent of police, Patna (rural).
According to Sinha, Kumar was killed to take revenge after a row over drinking toddy few months ago.
