Ranchi : A businessman, who got his mother to declare him dead seven months ago to avoid paying loans, has been arrested from Jamshedpur in Jharkhand, police said.
Prashant Kispotta was arrested from a hotel in Jamshedpur, about 130 km from here, while he was having dinner with a friend. His mother had alleged in April that another businessman, Rabindra Kumar Singh, a resident of Nowamundi block in Chaibasa, had abducted her son and killed him.
Singh pleaded innocence and argued that Prashant had got himself declared dead by his mother to avoid paying the rent on a dumper he had borrowed from him.
Prashant shifted to Bangalore where he found job with a software company. Police arrested him from the hotel after receiving a tip-off that he had returned to Jamshedpur.
Prashant had taken a dumper on rent for Rs.15,000 per month from Singh. But he was unable to pay the rent. He had also taken a loan from another businessman.
“Prashant has admitted he had got his mother to declare himself dead to get rid of paying loans. He later shifted to Bangalore,” an official of Adityapur police station in Jamshedpur said.
