Ranchi : A Jharkhand villager has charged Rural Development Minister Enos Ekka with grabbing land.
In his police complaint Sunday, Karma Oraon, a resident of Churwadag village under the Namkom police station of Ranchi, alleged that his three brothers had sold the family land to Ekka’s wife. Though he had not done so, the minister had built a boundary wall along his portion as well.
There is another case of land grab pending against Ekka. Kaluwa Munda, a resident of Koikari village of Ormanjhi block, about 35 km from here, also has complained that the minister had forcibly transferred land in his wife’s name.
Reacting to the charges, the minister said: “The cases are old and we will fight in the court if the notice is served to us.”
The Chhotanagpur Tenancy Act in Jharkhand prevents the transfer of tribal land. A person has to seek the district administration’s permission to transfer tribal land.
