Capsized tanker spills oil into Indonesian waters

Jakarta : An oil tanker carrying 50,000 litres of diesel capsized and spilled its contents into the sea off East Java province in Indonesia Tuesday.

The incident occurred when the tanker Karisma Selatan, owned by local shipping firm PT Pasifik Selatan, was filling in the diesel fuel at the Tanjung Perak Port in the provincial capital of Surabaya.

No one was injured in the incident, the national Antara news agency reported.

It would take at least two weeks to salvage the wreckage of the tanker, a coast guard official was quoted as saying.
