New Delhi : Ace Indian driver Karun Chandok, tipped as the future India prospect on the Formula One circuit, is eyeing a top-five finish in the GP2 circuit next season to seek an F1 berth.
“Last year this time I said my aim is to have a strong season, a podium finish and F1 testing and I am very delighted that I have achieved all. Now my aim is to finish in top-five in GP2 next season, which will pave my way to F1 in 2009,” Chandok said here Wednesday, while revealing his plans with Team iSport International in the 2008 GP2 series.
Chandhok will also compete in the newly introduced GP2 Asia that will serve as a warm-up for the main championship. It will be a huge boost for Chandhok, who drove for team Durango, this year and chalked up his only win at the Spa circuit and finished the season in 15th position with 16 points.
The Spa success fetched him an invite to drive for Red Bull Racing during Formula One winter testing at Jerez, Spain, in November.
“The opportunity Red Bull gave me was a dream come true. Now, if I am in the GP 2 top-five then the prospective F 1 employers will be there watching me.”
He also said his commitment with the Red Bull team would carry on next year as well.
“My association with Red Bull, along with Sebastian Boheme, who already has a long association with it, is part of junior training programme.”
