Ramadoss, who is the president of the institute, will chair meetings of the governing body and institute body, the AIIMS’ supreme decision-making bodies.

A health ministry official said the main agenda of the meeting is to start the process to appoint a new director, which takes at least a few months to complete.

The other agenda item to be taken up will be how to implement pending decisions, including the issue of irregular appointments and promotions of 164 assistant professors by previous Director P. Venugopal.

Ramadoss, who had been locked in a fierce tussle with Venugopal over the functioning of the AIIMS, was able to get the bill passed by parliament fixing the retirement age of the AIIMS director at 65 years or a term of five years.

After the bill was passed, the minister removed the noted surgeon and appointed head of the forensic sciences department T.D. Dogra as the acting director of the premier medical institute.

After his removal, Venugopal approached the Supreme Court that sent notice to the government seeking reasons for it rushing to parliament with the controversial legislation.
