“I am honoured to represent my country in the Fed Cup once again,” Davenport said Tuesday. “I look forward to La Jolla and helping our team advance to the semi-finals.”

The 31-year-old Davenport was off the tennis circuit for 11 months while having her first child. After her son was born in June, she returned to action in August and is currently ranked 72nd.

Fed Cup is the world’s largest annual international women’s team competition. The US leads all teams with 17 Fed Cup titles.

Davenport has posted a brilliant 31-2 (win-loss) overall record in Fed Cup play, including 25-2 in singles, and hasn’t lost a match in the team competition since 1994.
