PCB wants Indian cricket board to handle Yousuf’s case

Lahore : Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Nasim Ashraf said it is for the Indian board to deal with the court’s stay order on Mohammed Yousuf playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL) following the breakaway Indian Cricket League (ICL) moving the arbitration court for breach of contract by the batsman.

“Although I have no latest information about Yousuf’s case, hopefully the IPL will take up the case, if there is any such decision,” Ashraf was quoted as saying by the Dawn newspaper.

Yousuf, who joined the ICL after being dropped from the inaugural World Twenty20 Championship squad, was persuaded by the Pakistan Cricket Board to get back to its fold. The PCB also assured the batsman legal support if he was sued by the ICL.

The PCB has allowed seven players, including Yousuf, to play in the Indian cricket board’s IPL. But the ICL sent the player a legal notice, taking the matter to the Indian arbitration court.

Reacting to Ashraf’s statement, a senior Indian board official said that the matter was between Yousuf and the ICL, and the IPL did not come into the picture at all.

He said the stay was granted because Yousuf was not represented at the hearing, and at the next hearing he should authorise a lawyer to appear for him to argue the case.
