Called the TGN Eurasia Cable System, the project is being built in partnership with SEACOM and Telecom Egypt and will provide the Indian company with a 1.28-terabit capacity on this route from 2009, a company statement said.

“The TGN Eurasia Cable System will offer express connectivity between India and Europe and will also have future options for additional connectivity in the Gulf region as well as multiple locations in Europe.”

Last month, VSNL, a former state-run firm acquired by the Tatas, had announced another cable system to link Singapore, Hong Kong and Japan with an additional connection to the Philippines and potentially Vietnam.

“The TGN Eurasia Cable System will serve the increasing demand for bandwidth in the region and offer more options for route diversity and redundancy,” Vinod Kumar, president of global data solutions, said in the statement.
