Bhubaneswar : National Aluminium Co Ltd (Nalco), India’s second-biggest producer of aluminium, has announced it would upgrade its mines and refinery capacities by investing Rs.4 billion.
The board of the state-owned company Thursday approved the enhancement of alumina refinery capacity from 2.1 million tonnes to 2.27 million tonnes, a company official told IANS.
The firm’s bauxite mines’ capacity shall be expanded from 6.3 million tonnes to 6.82 million tonnes.
The project will take 35 months to complete at a cost of Rs.4.09 billion, he said.
Nalco has also zeroed in on Indonesia for setting up a 500,000-tonne smelter plant and 1,250-MW power plant, he said.
