The blast occurred in a mosque near the village of former interior minister Aftab Sherpao who was attending the prayers with his family members, state-run television channel PTV reported Friday.

Sherpao was offering prayers in the first row when the attacker triggered the bomb in the second row. Though Sherpao was unhurt as many as 20 people were killed in the attack and many injured.

Over 1,000 people were present in the mosque at the time of blast, nearly 25 km from Peshawar, capital of the North West Frontier Province (NWFP).

The injured are being transferred to local hospitals and the police are collecting details of the attack.

Sherpao is the head of Pakistan People’s Party (Sherpao group) and former chief minister of the province. He has filed nomination papers to contest in the forthcoming general elections.
