Officials said the accident occurred Saturday when a speeding truck rammed into the house in the Santa Lucia neighbourhood, killing five members of a family, Spain’s EFE news agency reported Monday.
Eugenio Alarcon, emergency services chief, told reporters that the truck’s fuel tank exploded when it hit the house, injuring some 36 people near the site.
Conditions of five injured are stated to be critical.
The blast also shattered the windowpanes of buildings located in a 500-metre radius.
A Bogota Metropolitan Police spokesman said the truck driver, who was not injured, was drunk at the time of the accident and had hit a car before losing control of his vehicle.
