Baghdad : At least 12 people were killed when the car they were travelling in collided with a train in southern Baghdad, a provincial police source said Monday.
“A car carrying 12 members of a family collided Sunday afternoon with a train coming from the southern city of Basra to Baghdad at the level-crossing of Hindiyah area near the Hilla City, 100 km south of Baghdad,” the source said.
Train service in the capital, stalled since the US-led invasion in 2003, had resumed Dec 16.
According to Iraqi officials, the resumption of the service became possible after the security situation improved in the country.
