New Delhi : All 32 Muslim youth, who had been arrested following a scuffle between Muslims and policemen after a policeman’s alleged desecration of the Holy Qur’an at Batla House Chowk in the Jamia Nagar area of the city on September 22, were released here Monday.
Jamia Nagar Coordination Committee, which had been spearheading the movement for the release of these detained Muslims and final resolution of the case against them, has expressed pleasure over the
grant of bail to all of them.
The Committee, which had been formed soon after the incident by the representatives of some Muslim organisations and community and residents welfare associations including Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, Muslim Majlis-e-Mushawarat, Milli Council, etc., has extended thanks to all its constituents for their significant contribution to bringing the case to this end.
In a statement released here Monday, Convener of the Committee Irfanullah Khan expressed pleasure that three-month long concerted and continued efforts coupled with Muslim unity and legal measures taken by the Committee have played a significant role that led to the release of the detainees on the occasion of Eid Al-Adha. "For this all the members of the Committee deserve congratulations," he said.
Commenting on not filing of the charge-sheet by the police during all these three months, the convenor of the Committee said, "Not filing of the charge-sheet as yet supports our stand that
the charges levelled against the detainees in this case were totally wrong and baseless."
Extending his thanks to the Lt. Governor of N.C.T. Delhi, he said that it was the keen interest taken by Lt. Governor in this matter that made it possible. The Convenor hoped that his support would continue in the future as well. He also extended thanks to other high officials as well as the Press for cooperating with the Committee and the people of the locality.
Mr. Irfan has appealed to the public to unitedly chalk out future strategy in this regard.
