The Hyderabadi batsman’s knock was instrumental in India winning that particular Test and take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. The victory, in which off-spinner Harbhajan Singh took India’s first ever hat-trick in Tests, ended Australia’s golden streak of 16 successive wins.

Sourav Ganugly-led India went on to win the third match in Chennai and clinched the series 2-0.

Following are the individual batting and bowling records between the two countries, ahead of the first Test starting in Melbourne Wednesday.
