Madhya Pradesh Power Trading Corporation Limited and NTPC signed the agreement Monday in New Delhi.

As per the PPA, Madhya Pradesh would start receiving 400 MW from the 1,000-MW capacity Mauda Super Thermal Power Station near Nagpur in Maharashtra from July 2011.

Mauda Super Thermal Power Station is a fast track project of Maharashtra government and NTPC and all the contracts for it have been implemented.

The 400 MW will be very welcome to the power starved state. Its current demand is 6,500 MW while the supply is 5,200-5,300 MW.

The shortfall has led to long power cuts extending from seven to 13 hours a day in both rural and urban areas. The power crisis has also hit industrial production.
