Dubai : The United Arab Emirates (UAE) Tuesday banned import of birds from Germany’s Brandenburg state after the H5N1 avian influenza virus was detected there.
The ban issued by the ministry of environment and water covered “all living domestic and wild birds and their products”, WAM news agency reported.
The ministry also instructed its animal wealth department to coordinate efforts with other related authorities to enforce the ban.
The ban was slapped as a precautionary measure to protect health safety of the public and animal resources alike, a ministry release said.
The ban was imposed after the ministry received reports from the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) regarding the cases of bird flu in Brandenburg, media reports said.
German authorities Dec 15 confirmed an outbreak of bird flu in the northeastern state of Brandenburg.
