Moscow : An Indian national has been attacked by some five unidentified assailants in northwest Moscow, the police said Wednesday.
The assailants also robbed the Indian of $2,000 in cash and jewellery worth $4,000 from his apartment, the police said.
“The five men threatened him with a gun, beat him, took his keys and entered his apartment,” a police spokesman said.
After looting cash and valuables from his apartments, the attackers drove from the scene, the source added.
Routine attacks by skinheads and young gangs on foreigners and people with non-Slavic features are a regular occurrence in Russia.
However, authorities have been generally reluctant to treat the attacks as hate crimes, and describe them as acts of hooliganism.
