The Chandigarh lad carded two-over 74 to be three-under 213 for the competition at the Army Environmental Park and Training area.

Amanjyot Singh, who shot the day’s best score of one-over 73, was second at 218 while Rashid Khan had a disappointing day with a five-over 77 that put him in the third place at 219.

Chikkarangappa from Category B was tied with Angad Cheema for the fourth place at 223. Ankur Chadda and Abhijit Chadha shard the sixth spot at 224.

Bakshi made a good beginning with solid pars on the first four holes and went even better on the par-5 fifth making a birdie. However, he lost his concentration as he made a hat-trick of bogeys on the last three holes of his front nine.

On the back nine, Bakshi tried to resurrect his round by making a birdie on the 11th but lost the advantage on the very next hole making a double bogey.

With a birdie on the 14th he was one-over for the round but erred again on the par-3 16th when he went over and ended with a bogey to finish two-over for the day.

“It was a bit windy and I just could not get into the groove. I need to work on my putting as I missed a lot of them,” admitted the 17-year-old. ”

Amanjyot began with a birdie on the opening hole but lost the advantage immediately when he three-putted the next for a bogey.

After three steady pars, the Jaipur boy was in deep trouble on his drive and was forced to lose two strokes. His back nine was a shade better, despite a bogey on the 10th.

The stocky Amanjyot made an eagle on the par-5 12th to be one-over for the day. A bogey on the 15th put him two-strokes over par. However, the former Junior British Open winner salvaged a birdie on the par-4 17th to finish at one-over par.

“I wanted to attack and hence paid the penalty on the sixth. My driving was better today but my short game was a suspect,” he said.
