Japanese PM starts China visit

Beijing : Japan’s prime minister Yasuo Fukuda, will start later today an official visit to China.

He will hold talks with Chinese President Hu Jintao and Premier Wen Jiabao on Friday as part of a four-day trip that comes amid steadily growing economic ties.

Fukuda will also tour Tianjin, Jinan and Qufu in east China before returning home Sunday.

I will do everything in my power to build good relations, Fukuda told reporters before departing for Beijing. I plan to hold candid discussions, he said.

I am prepared to relay my views, as well as listen to theirs.

A senior Japanese government official said the countries would sign agreements on increasing youth exchanges and cooperating in science and technology to combat climate change, according to a report of the Associated Press.

Issues relating to gas reserves in the East China Sea would also be discussed, the official said in Beijing.
