United Nations : The UN will need $500 million next year for implementing emergency relief programmes in Palestinian territories, Prensa Latina news agency reported Thursday.
The Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs said the funds would be necessary to address the critical need of the population, mainly those living in the Gaza Strip.
Filippo Grandi, UN assistant commissioner for Palestinian refugees, expressed his concern over the seriousness of the situation and plight of Palestinians living in the Gaza neighbourhood.
Grandi was quoted by media as saying that humanitarian interventions cannot solve the problems in that region and the UN is calling on donors to alleviate the sufferings of the Palestinians.
The UN said it would concentrate its efforts on helping the most vulnerable sections of the society. It would supply food for more than 800,000 people and other assistance for 100,000 people.
