Islamabad : Caretaker Prime Minister Mohammadmian Soomro Friday said the January 8 elections will go ahead as per schedule.
However, any decision to change will be in consultation with all the political parties. “Right now the elections stand as they are,” the Prime Minister said, when asked whether any decision has been made to postpone the election.
“Nothing yet,” he said and added that he has invited all political parties to review the situation and hammer out a future course of action.
“Any decision [about election] will be taken in consultation with the political parties,” he told reporters at a press conference after chairing a special meeting of the cabinet.
The Prime Minister also ordered judicial inquiry into the killing of Pakistan Peoples Party chairperson Benazir Bhutto. Soomro said the head of inquiry committee would be appointed in consultation with the PPP leaders and specific timeframe would be given for the submission of report.
