Srinagar : Security forces Saturday gunned down two guerrillas of Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM) militant outfit after a fierce gunfight in south Kashmir Pulwama district.
Police said troops of anti-insurgency 44 Rashtriya Rifles and special operations group (SOG) of state police surrounded a house in Drubgam village, 50 km from here, on a specific input about the presence of militants there.
“As the troops challenged the holed up militants, they came under heavy fire,” a police spokesman said here.
“The fire was returned, and in the sustained gunfight that ended this (Saturday) evening, both the holed up militants including a category ‘A’ militant Abdul Gani Dar alias Jangvi were killed.”
The house of Muhammad Abdullah Ganaie in which the militants were hiding was destroyed during the gunfight.
One AK-47 rifle was recovered from the encounter site, the police claimed.
