India holds woeful away record in Tests

By IANS

New Delhi : India may have two World titles to their credit, the 1983 World Cup and this year’s Twenty20 World championship, but their away record in Test cricket is not even half as good as their home record. Even India’s overall record is better than their performance overseas.

Of the 412 Tests India has played so far, they have won 92, lost 132 and drawn 187 for a 22.33 winning percentage.

Of the 210 Tests they played at home, they have won 63, lost 47 and drawn 99 for a winning percentage of 30.

However, the 1983 World Cup champions have a miserable overseas record. Of the 202 Tests they played abroad, they have won only 29, and lost 85, while 88 ended without a result. That works out to a disappointing 14.33 winning percentage.

India’s best Test record is against neighbours Bangladesh, winning an overwhelming 80 percent, beating them in four of five Tests and drawing the other.
