Chennai : The Indian challenge in the qualifying tournament for the ATP Chennai Open ended, here Sunday with the exit of Mustafa Ghouse, Karan Rastogi, Kamala Kannan and Stephen Amritraj.
Of some Indian interest in the qualifying round is Rajeev Ram, the Bangalore-born US-based player who made it to the quarterfinals with a 6-2, 7-5 win over Michael Mertinak (Slovakia).
The qualifying tournament concludes Monday with the four semi-finalists entering the 32-player main draw.
Incidentally, 17 Indians took part in the qualifying rounds. In the 13-year history of Chennai Open, only two Indians managed qualify for the main draw – Rohan Bopanna in 2006 and Harsh Mankad in 2005.
