Jet Airways flies bigger plane on Malaysia route

Kuala Lumpur : Jet Airways has introduced a bigger Airbus A330-200 aircraft for its Kuala Lumpur-Chennai route with a capacity to carry more passengers on its daily flights. The Airbus started its service Saturday.

The wide-bodied Airbus A330-200 can accommodate 190 passengers for its economy class and 30 for its premier class, compared with a maximum of 140 passengers on its Boeing B737-800 previously.

The next on the Indian airliner’s plan is to introduce the Kuala Lumpur-Mumbai route by the second quarter next year, Jet Airways regional vice-president Gerry Oh announced.

“The wide-body will increase the total capacity of passengers by almost 60 percent,” Gerry Oh was quoted in The Star newspaper Sunday.

Among the 183 passengers travelling to Chennai on the inaugural flight was Malaysia’s Works Minister S. Samy Vellu.

Also at the airport to mark the occasion was Deputy Tourism Minister Donald Lim Siang Chai.
