Philanthropic group bags India Vision TV award

Thiruvananthapuram, Dec 31 (IANS) A philanthropic organization Pain and Palliative Care Society (PPCS) Monday bagged the “2007 Person of The Year” award given by the India Vision TV channel.

Former state minister and chairman of the India TV M.K. Muneer made the announcement in the presence of Defence Minister A.K. Antony.

The PPCS was formed in 1993 by a group of doctors and social activists in Kozhikode as a palliative care clinic attached to the Kozhikode Medical College.

Today the society has 64 palliative care units with more than 4,000 volunteers who take care of more than 7,000 patients.

The award carries a cash prize of Rs.100,000.

After giving the award to the office bearers of the PPCS, Antony said he is pleased that the award is being given to an organization that takes care of the needy.
